September 14 - September 2009Greetings Friends
Below are some quotes from a fascinating book, "Money Isn't/IS Everything:What Jesus Said about the Spiritual Power of Money." It is an honest, direct, and thought provoking book. I pray that each of us will be blessed as we prayerfully consider what stewardship means for us and the church.
Shalom,
Pastor Jim

Quotes from:
"Money Isn't/IS Everything:What Jesus Said about the Spiritual Power of Money"
"Stewardship is never a matter between you and me or between you and the church; it is between you and God. Whether the church budget gets balanced in not a matter of ultimate importance. Whether our lives get balanced is" (p8).
"Offerings are always a spiritual matter, involving the giving of ourselves" (p9).
"Jesus says that prayer, not money, is the secret to feeling hopeful" (p13).
"When we focus on money — getting it and keeping it — we tend to unfocus our spiritual connection with God" (p14).
"By letting go of the illusion that we gain and maintain financial control through our own will and work, we take the first step into God's kingdom of emotional peace and security" (p16).
"When Jesus and Paul speak about money, they do not see it as evil — unless you allow it to distract you from connecting with God and from helping the less fortunate" (p34).
"We often expect to become more caring persons at some point in the future, when we have more time" (p35) "John Wesley said that if you have poor giving habits, you are robbing God. Jesus went beyond that. He said that if you have poor giving habits, you rob yourself" (p41). "If we give God our money without giving God our hearts, we miss the mark" (p50). |
